Warren Haynes Pens Tribute To Allen Woody On 20th Anniversary Of His Death

On August 26th, 2000, renowned bass player Allen Woody, co-founder of Gov’t Mule and longtime bassist for the Allman Brothers Band, died of a heroin overdose. Woody unexpectedly passed away 20 years ago to the day. He was 44. 

The death of Allen Woody hit especially close to Warren Haynes who spent a lot of time with him not only in Gov’t Mule and the Allman Brothers, but also traveling the world as well. Haynes recalled Woody as “my partner in music” and his “partner in travel and adventure.”
