News By Stu Kelly / August 8, 2024 In a captivating reinterpretation, Remember Summer, the dynamic duo featuring Northern Irish artist Paddy Conn of indie pop band Swimming Tapes and English vocalist Angelina Dove, have unveiled their hauntingly ethereal cover of Blink-182‘s iconic anthem “All The Small Things.” Remember Summer, known for their mutual love of bygone eras, utilizes an enchanting blend of dusty synths and wistful poetry to craft their nostalgia-laden dream pop. Their music evokes a poignant dream state of long-lost summer nights or the cozy solitude of a desert road trip on the brink of September, capturing the essence of those magical days when it feels like summer might never end. The pair’s journey began in the summer of 2016 at the Forest Gate café, where they both worked and started creating songs to pass the time in the sweltering kitchen. “Summer of ’16 became the year of collaboration for Paddy and I,” recalls Dove. “We started swapping ideas at work. It all started as a bit of fun, really, sort of a distraction to stem boredom, but when the café went bust the following year and we both got fired, we realized that we’d started something we missed more than frying eggs. Since we live 5 minutes away from each other, we’ve kept it up. This is ‘Remember Summer.’” Following their cover of Miley Cyrus‘s “Wrecking Ball,” Remember Summer has transformed “All The Small Things” into a slow-paced, hauntingly ethereal track. Angelina’s echoing vocals float delicately over the melancholy instrumentation, giving the song a new, reflective depth. “I came across the lyrics for that song and read them out of context, and it got me thinking,” shares Angelina. “There was something haunting about them, a kind of disenchantment, particularly in the line about roses left by the stairs. It took me right back to quite a lonely period of my life where flowers softened grief and became symbolic tokens vs romantic gestures. I asked Paddy to play the chords (again out of context and without bringing up the original), and it went from there…” Remember Summer’s transformation of “All The Small Things” is a testament to their ability to breathe new life into familiar tunes, infusing them with a dreamlike quality that resonates with listeners. As they continue unveiling their latest music, Remember Summer invites fans to join them, exploring their unique sound’s nostalgic and wistful landscapes. Check out the blissful rendition below.
