Lyle Brewer Departs Neighbor; Rob Compa of Dopapod to Join as New Guitarist

The Boston-based band Neighbor announced today that guitarist Lyle Brewer is leaving the group, marking the end of a pivotal chapter in the band’s journey. Brewer celebrated for his virtuosic guitar work and contributions to the band’s sound, will perform his final shows with Neighbor during an upcoming run beginning in Saratoga, NY, and concluding at The Cabot Theatre in Beverly, MA.

Replacing Brewer is Rob Compa, formerly of Dopapod, who is stepping into the role as Neighbor’s new guitarist. Compa, an accomplished musician in his own right, joins the band as Dopapod continues its indefinite hiatus.

Neighbor shared the news in an emotional statement, emphasizing the strength of the community that has grown around their music since the band’s inception in 2019. “The people that support and follow Neighbor mean the world to us,” the band wrote. “With time comes change… Today is very difficult for us, but also very exciting, as we announce the departure of our guitarist Lyle Brewer and welcome our longtime friend and guitarist Rob Compa.”

The band expressed heartfelt gratitude for Brewer’s contributions, describing him as “respected around the world for his innate skill as a guitarist” and an inspiration as both a musician and a family man. “We’re excited to see what’s next for our brother Lyle,” they added, encouraging fans to follow Brewer’s ongoing musical journey.

Brewer’s replacement, Compa, was lauded as perfect for Neighbor’s dynamic sound. The band noted that his first rehearsal with them was a revelation, highlighting his ability to bring a fresh perspective to their music while excelling in composed and improvised sections. “With Rob, the future of Neighbor is in very good hands,” the statement read.
