My Morning Jacket Detail New Studio Album ‘is’ and Release First Single [Listen]

My Morning Jacket has unveiled their forthcoming 10th studio album, aptly titled is. The record, set to release on March 21, promises to be a deeply reflective and spiritually inspired addition to the band’s celebrated discography.

The band shared their excitement and thoughts in a statement that emphasizes both the power of music and the challenges faced by the world today.

“Hello friends, we are sending out so much love to everyone affected by the winds of change & disaster going on in the world right now,” the statement begins. “In trying times it can almost feel trivial to talk about things other than disaster relief, but we feel that music itself is indeed one of the greatest forms of relief that we know of, so we hope that the music we put into the world can be of use to everyone in bringing some peace, love, and healing into their lives.”

The band’s frontman, Jim James, explained the inspiration behind the album’s title, noting the significance of the word “is” as a symbol of presence and acceptance. “We all see & use the word ‘is’ many times every single day, but it’s rare to see it by itself,” he said. “It began calling out to me as we were making this record, because time & time again, when I would seek an explanation for something, I would get a hit from the universe that it just ‘is what it is.’”

James elaborated on the band’s creative process, describing it as a journey of surrender and connection to a larger, universal consciousness. “We tried to let the universe speak through us by experiencing the music, following its lead until the path became clearer & clearer, ultimately bringing us here to what is,” he shared. “We hoped that, if we could REALLY let ourselves go and merge with the divine where everything is connected, that the music that emerged could perhaps truly end up being what is REALLY needed to best serve reality as it ‘is’ NOW.”

The band’s message underscores their gratitude for music as a unifying force and a source of healing. “How grateful we are for the gift of music-connecting us all to that larger fabric of love/god/universal consciousness. I truly believe we are all made of the same stuff, we all come from and will return to the same divine place, and music is perhaps the greatest reminder we have of that universal love and connection here on earth,” James concluded. “May this music be helpful to you, may it bring you peace and joy – NOW & all your days.”
