New Orleans powerhouse Tank and The Bangas recently released pro-shot footage of their take on “What The World Needs Now” featuring an incredible cast of fellow Crescent City natives. Tank and company released the heartfelt cover as a way to raise funds for various non-profits working towards quality and justice including the Equal Justice Initiative and the #BlackLivesMatter Global Network.

The original recording was released on April 15, 1965 by Jackie DeShannon with lyrics by Hal David and music composed by Burt Bacharach. The song was an overnight success and has since been covered by a plethora of different artists spanning a variety of musical backgrounds. Tank and The Bangas have had their fair share of success over the years as it seems their rapid ascend has yet to peak. They won the 2017 NPR Tiny Desk Contest and in November 2019 they were nominated in the Best New Artist category for the 2020 Grammy Awards

“In January, Yahoo gave us the opportunity to call some of our artist friends in New Orleans to help us record ”What The World Needs now” and it was one of the most powerful moments I’ve ever experienced in a room full of artists. It was so New Orleans. The voices of the children, the poets, the different tones and textures of all the artist was truly transforming. I believe that everyone can testify how high the emotions ran this particular day. It’s my hope that people will become moved, active, and use love in their weaponry in fighting for what they believe in right,” said Tarriona “Tank” Ball.
