My Morning Jacket Concludes Eye to Eye Tour at Merriweather Post Pavilion

Rain-soaked but undeterred, fans filed into Merriweather Post Pavilion for an unforgettable night on the “Eye to Eye” tour, where My Morning Jacket shared co-headline duties with Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats. Despite the downpour, the busy venue was buzzing with excitement as My Morning Jacket took the stage first. Their powerful and atmospheric sound was the perfect way to kick off the evening.

Opening with “Gideon,” the band immediately set the tone, delivering their signature blend of southern rock and spacey, experimental jams. Jim James‘ soaring vocals pierced through the misty air during “Here in Spirit,” a solo cut that fit seamlessly into the set. The song’s message of unity and perseverance hit even harder as the weather challenged the performers and the audience.

“Spring (Among the Living)” followed, lifting spirits with its hypnotic groove, before the band transitioned into the fan-favorite “Mahgeetah,” sending waves of nostalgia through the crowd. The interplay between Carl Broemel’s guitar work and James’ emotive delivery during “Golden” was a standout moment, offering a beautiful, reflective pause before the band cranked up the energy again with “Run It.”

The ebb and flow of the set was masterfully curated. The opening notes of “Run It” sent a wave of tranquility through the venue. At the same time, “Touch Me I’m Going to Scream Pt. 1” brought a haunting, psychedelic vibe that lingered in the air, while “Compound Fracture” punched through with electrifying energy. A raw, extended version of “War Begun” and the foot-stomping “Dancefloors” had the die-hards dancing through the puddles, showing no signs of surrender to the rain.

By the time they reached “Victory Dance,” the band was fully in sync, delivering a powerful, triumphant, and cathartic performance. The closing trio—”Love Love Love,” “Aren’t We One?” and “Phone Went West”—was a perfect way to end their set. “Phone Went West” stretched into a long, soulful jam, clocking in at nearly 11 minutes, leaving the crowd in nostalgia and awe.

Beyond the music, the night carried a deeper meaning. The tour’s partnership with REVERB was evident in every facet, from the reusable cups to the electric vehicle chargers at the venue, driving home the message that these artists are not only here to entertain but also to take real action on climate change. It was a show that moved hearts and served a higher purpose, making every soaked second worth it.

As My Morning Jacket stepped off the stage, the drenched but exhilarated audience on the lawn eagerly awaited what Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats would bring. But one thing was clear: the night was already a resounding success.
