News By Stu Kelly / October 2, 2017 The incident is being reported as the deadliest shooting in modern U.S. history. Over 50 people have been killed and more than 400 people are injured after a gunman armed with assault rifles began firing rounds into the crowd while he was standing on his balcony at the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino. Gunfire rained down on the crowd of concert attendees just after 10 p.m. local time. Just before midnight the gunman died of a self-inflicted gun wound before police could enter his room. The police identified the gunman as Stephen Paddock, 64-year-old male from Mesquite, Nevada. A sheriff for the Las Vegas police department said the police were seeking “a companion” named Marilou Danley, and the authorities later said they were “confident” they had located her. Paddock reportedly managed to fire 2,700 + bullets in under five minutes into the crowd of 2,500 attendees. At the time of the incident Jason Aldean was on stage performing as part of the Route 91 Harvest Festival, a three-day country music event.
